Many titles describe me: student, athlete, coach, author, advocate, and journalist to name a few, but in December 2020, I was named a “Difference Maker” by CNN. A video story highlighting my role and impact as the lead of Operation Christian Child at the University of Miami aired on CNN, HLN, and hundreds of affiliates across the nation, along with a digital article produced by CNN.
I believe ‘to those who have been given much, much is expected.’ I understand my role is to serve others and am grateful for the platform to do so. My passion is people and telling their story.
In front of the camera, I have anchored the award-winning University of Miami sports and news broadcasts, reported, and interviewed. I have been an interviewee, moderator, emcee, vlogger, ambassador and motivational speaker.
Behind the camera my experience includes storytelling, writing, editing, interviewing, and studio crew work. Having minors in advertising and marketing with the experience of social media management, I also understand the intentionality and relationship of brand standards, sales, and the consumer.
As a former high-performing collegiate student-athlete, I have expectations of excellence and the skills and work ethic to consistently perform at the highest level. On the court with the Hurricanes Volleyball team, I faced challenges and competition on a daily basis and proved myself as a leader, captain, and team player. I adapted to playing where my feet were in four different positions as a ‘Cane and understood each role, big or small, is vital for victory.
In the classroom, I combined my love for sports with my love for storytelling as I studied Broadcast Journalism, preparing me to enter into the field of Sports Broadcasting.
Being a “Difference Maker” is not only an honorable accolade, it is an everyday attitude. In fact, I still play where my feet are, even though I am not playing at all. As the Student Assistant Coach on the sidelines, reporter in studio, or leader of Operation Christmas Child at the University of Miami, I strive to make a difference, play where my feet are, and work to the best of my ability — no matter what, no matter where.
