Raise your hand if you have ever struggled in deciding to follow your Christian calling or run after your professional career.

Hand raised? You’re not alone!

While at the University of Miami, I majored in Broadcast Journalism and double minored in Marketing and Advertising. Now, I am finishing my master’s in journalism with a focus in sports reporting, and my sights set on one day working with ESPN

Outside of the classroom, I served on several teams in my church, attended Bible studies, and led the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

I knew my abilities belonged in front of the camera but was God calling me to ministry?

What UM did not teach me was what Elaine Rau did: your faith can be merged with your work.

After taking Rau’s Grow Your Christian Blog course, I have learned practical ways I can do just that.

Rau teaches strategy and scripture, business and the Bible

As I transition from the college world post-graduation in December and into full-on adulting, I am continuing to build my own personal brand and blog. With the knowledge of this course, I am confident in walking through the new season.

Since I am still working on my website, I do not have analytics or statistics to prove there has been growth. Still, trust me. This course is incredible, and the knowledge alone of mixing side-gigs with spiritual ties can be perspective-shifting and life-changing.

So, is your interest peaked? Do you want to launch your own Christian blog? Do you want to learn how to build a business? Do you want to know how to optimize reach, impressions, and sales on social media? Do you want to see how you, too, can merge Bible and business

If so, I cannot recommend this course enough.

I do have an affiliate link, and I get commissions based off of purchases made through this link. Nonetheless, know that I will not recommend any product that I do not first try and love. I committed several hours into completing and studying this course, amidst Hurricanes Volleyball travel season, might I add! My willingness to work through the course in a hectic time of my life should further show how worthy this course is of your attention.

The course is just one click away!

You can also use my promo code: CAM.DOBBS for 20% off! That roughly makes the course only $78

I pray you are not only educated but inspired by this course. Enjoy the step-by-step videos and additional access to useful resources that allow you to start a thriving empire if you so choose!

If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out!

Freely Exploring and Privately Browsing https://camerondobbs.com/uncategorized/freely-exploring-and-privately-browsing/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=freely-exploring-and-privately-browsing https://camerondobbs.com/uncategorized/freely-exploring-and-privately-browsing/#respond Sat, 31 Oct 2020 21:37:20 +0000 http://camerondobbs.com/?p=113 Relays between my browser and the web

Using the Tor Browser allows for free and private exploring on the web. To test this theory, I first typed in the DuckDuckGo search bar, “What is my ip?” The results showed, “Your IP address is unavailable.” However, in Google’s search bar in a public browser, my public IP address did display.

Tor does more than keeping your search private. It lets you explore freely by allowing you to search sites that cannot be seen on the web. ProPublica being one. The journalism site aims to “expose abuses of power” and more — embracing the watchdog identity of the press.

Rise Up is another site seen through Tor’s browser. This network aids people aiming to “work on liberatory social change.”

Another interesting site Tor supports — the CIA. With the label, “The work of a nation,” it is odd they are not easily available to the nation.

All three sites offer beneficial information to the American public. However, when searched for on a public browser, the only result is an error. It alarming to see they are not available unless found on a private browser.

Another difference I found between using Tor and a public browser was a slightly slower loading time.

Frustrations with Failing a Phishing Test https://camerondobbs.com/uncategorized/frustrations-with-failing-a-phishing-test/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=frustrations-with-failing-a-phishing-test https://camerondobbs.com/uncategorized/frustrations-with-failing-a-phishing-test/#respond Sat, 31 Oct 2020 20:04:43 +0000 http://camerondobbs.com/?p=106 After taking the Phishing Box’s Phishing Test, I was greatly confused. I thought the majority of the emails looked and sounded legit, and they easily could have been. However, after finishing my first attempt, I failed the test with a 50%. After another try, I improved my score to an 80%.

Keys when analyzing the emails were detailing suspicious activity or changed account information to different services. Emails sent with official letterheads and logos helped signifying legitimacy.

Even after analyzing my final two missed questions, the Apple ID “Password has been reset” and Dropbox “Two-step verification” emails, I have not found my errors. To me, they look legitimate, with the labels and logos as mentioned previously.

The emails describe circumstances that could have easily happened and warn user Mark Twain of changes to his account. I am still not certain why these are labeled phishing emails. If anything, they look like they are an attempt to save Twain from future phishing.

Looking forward, Phishing Box should have an answer key at the end of the test explaining the reasoning behind each answer. This would further educate test takers on phishing and clear up any confusion.

Live Tweeting College Football https://camerondobbs.com/uncategorized/live-tweeting-college-football/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=live-tweeting-college-football https://camerondobbs.com/uncategorized/live-tweeting-college-football/#respond Sun, 11 Oct 2020 07:04:56 +0000 http://camerondobbs.com/?p=59 With a full charge of battery, phone in hand, and water bottle within reach, I was ready for the Miami-Clemson game to start. I had tabs of Twitter, Instagram, CBS Sports, and team rosters pulled up.

One of my favorite tweets from the night involved knowledge from other college games and gave perspective of the whole day. It brought attention to the spontaneity of college football. Even though Clemson controlled this game from the start, there was a glimpse of hope for the Hurricanes.

To my surprise, my friends in the room were not distracting but an extra set of eyes. If I were ever focused on my phone long enough to miss a play, their reactions cued me to pay attention. Despite having five ‘Canes in the room, I did not let my bias shine through.

While live tweeting, nothing particularly went wrong, but there is room for improvement. One small detail I was constantly conflicted upon was hashtags. Either using more or less, I can be more consistent with my tags next time.

For future games, I will print out stats and rosters to have beside me, rather than relying on my phone. This will specifically allow me to tweet additional overall game and program stats throughout.

Before the game began, I did make notes of topics I wanted to touch on throughout the night. Next time, I will look into scheduling my pregame posts leading up to the event. I plan to use more media in the future through pictures, videos, and gifs to make my tweets stand out.

To add more character, I would like to take note of the commentators’ conversations. Chris Fowler and Kirk Herbstreit both added stats, opinions, and stories that could have been used for content especially in the fourth quarter as the game began to slow.

Popping Your Personal Filter Bubble https://camerondobbs.com/uncategorized/popping-your-personal-filter-bubble/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=popping-your-personal-filter-bubble https://camerondobbs.com/uncategorized/popping-your-personal-filter-bubble/#respond Sun, 04 Oct 2020 19:14:36 +0000 http://camerondobbs.com/?p=55 The term filter bubble was coined by Eli Pariser to describe “the result of the algorithms that dictate what we encounter online.” Social media creates filters by targeting ads, content, and creators that align with one’s personal interests and political views. When someone engages in content, social media sites and advertisers direct similar posts to their feed.

Filter bubbles impact journalism, specifically in politics. Andrew Yang speaks on the reality of running without a recognized platform saying, “You hope that your message will catch hold, and that reporters will share your ideas with others who will then take an interest in you.” Yang says what the media chooses to publish is what is focused on by the American people, and vice versa — even if it not the most important.

Filter bubbles do not only exist online; they are present in everyday environments. Where one lives and works and who they associate with influences their bubble. Surrounding oneself with like-minded people may be natural to society, but it promotes groupthink. NBC News says this can lead to potential dangers such as overestimating the prevalence of one’s perspective, decreasing empathy for others, and inhibiting authentic dialogue and true change.

In order to break free of filter bubbles, take Farnam Street‘s proactive steps such as activating ad-blocking browser extensions, seeking information from a wide range of perspectives, and aiming to educate not entertain oneself with news. Additionally, operating in incognito browsing, deleting search histories, and avoiding logging into accounts when possible will limit the filters placed on the content shown.

To avoid in-person filter bubbles contributing to one-sided perspectives, attend debates, forums, and rallies with both sides present.

Increasing Internet Usage in Canada https://camerondobbs.com/uncategorized/internet-in-canada/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=internet-in-canada https://camerondobbs.com/uncategorized/internet-in-canada/#respond Sat, 12 Sep 2020 23:29:23 +0000 http://camerondobbs.com/?p=26 Canadian exercises freedom of expression

Canadians are pushing to upgrade to an all-access unlimited data plan as Internet usage increases. Now, 90 percent have broadband and 81 percent are satisfied with its speed. In fact, compared with the United States and Mexico, Canada has the fastest mobile speed.

Cira reports 70 percent of the population uses Facebook and more than half subscribe to Netflix. With the rise of Internet, e-commerce is growing, too.

Freedom House reports that Canada has a shining status of free Internet access, minimal obstacles to gain access, and few regulations on content. However, the government’s recent attempt to encourage the population to tune in to news sites by giving benefits to subscribers may affect the validity and accessibility of the press if the government chooses which publications qualify as worthy for benefits.

Similar to many countries, Internet is an “integral part of Canada’s socio-economic infrstructure.” Canada’s cost for low speed Internet ranks among the cheapest globally, while the price of broadband Internet ranks on the high-end, deepening the digital divide between rural and urban areas. However, Canada’s government is aware of the issue and works to prevent the divide by improving the broadband coverage throughout the country.
